The effects of birth order and family size on academic achievement, divergent thinking, and problem finding among gifted students

The current study explored the influence of birth order and family size on academic achievement, divergent thinking (DT), problem finding (PF) with a sample 156 gifted male female Arab students (M= 12.21 years, SD= 1.75). Regarding it was found that first-borns possessed higher grade point averages (GPAs) than did other-born children. Family also related to achievement-participants from smaller-sized families had significantly GPAs compared middle- large-sized families. As for both DT PF, multivariate analysis variance showed significant differences interaction between in originality dimension PF. Non-significant were concerning size. follow-up analyses later-born scored first-, second-, third-, fourth-born children PF originality. Later-born who smaller No influences fluency as well Limitations future directions are discussed.
